Why VIA
A school designed for international students
VIA is the first international school in the U.S. built to help young students transition smoothly. Its curriculum combines American middle and high school academics, language and cultural transition courses, and U.S. college navigation and advising. Rather than fitting international students into a system built for American children, VIA was built for them from day one.
Explore our programs →A mentor for every student
Every VIA student is assigned a mentor who meets with them every one to two weeks for an in-depth conversation. Academics, roommates, health, wellbeing, communication with parents: whatever a student faces in America, one steady adult is following up.
Explore student life →A brand-new 2025 campus
Our new campus in Maurertown, Virginia was fully renovated in 2025: classrooms, dormitories, and dining hall all made new. Shenandoah County Park, just across the road, offers tennis, basketball, baseball, and disc golf. The dining hall serves a blend of Chinese and Western cuisine that alumni call the gold standard of American school cafeterias.

Virginia International Academy was founded in 2012 as an independent, secular international school dedicated to preparing international students for study at U.S. high schools and universities.
In 2013 we began enrolling students from China at our campus in Front Royal, Virginia, starting with 15 students in Grades 7–9. Between 2013 and 2022, more than 250 students studied at VIA, going on to Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia, NYU, the University of Virginia, USC, UCLA, UC Berkeley, Georgia Tech, Emory, and other leading U.S. universities.
In 2022 we sold the Front Royal campus and expanded into high school education. In 2025 we acquired a new campus in Maurertown, Virginia, with capacity for 100 students, where we now educate both middle and high school students.
